HC Deb 11 July 1935 vol 304 cc484-5
38. Mr. D. GRENFELL

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he has considered complaints of the effect on inshore fishing of the discharge of oil at sea; and whether he has made representations for dealing with pollution in the interest of men whose livelihood is gravely jeopardised by the destruction of fish of all kinds from this cause?

Sir GEORGE BOWYER (Comptroller of the Household)

I have been asked to reply. My right hon. Friend has received a number of statements regarding the effect of oil pollution on inshore fisheries and has transmitted information on this subject through the Board of Trade to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs for use in connection with the inquiries which are at present being conducted by the Communications and Transit Organisation of the League of Nations.

Mr. MACQUISTEN

Will the Minister consider the great harm done to bird life by the discharge of oil?
