HC Deb 09 July 1935 vol 304 c145
17. Mr. GUY

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has now completed the arrangements for the transfer to the Register House, Edinburgh, of the Scottish national records at present in London?

The LORD ADVOCATE

There are in the Public Record Office several Scottish papers which were removed to London in 1291, and a number of volumes and Departmental papers affecting Scotland for periods from the 17th to the 19th century. The question of the proper disposal of these records has been under consideration, and it appears that legislation would be necessary before any arrangements can be made. Such legislation will be considered when an opportunity offers.

Mr. GUY

Is any legislation necessary in view of the fact that the return of these documents was provided for in the Treaty of Northampton in the year 1328?

The LORD ADVOCATE

My information is that legislation will be necessary.
