HC Deb 09 July 1935 vol 304 cc148-9
23. Mr. TINKER

asked the Secretary for Mines the time of the working day of the underground worker in a coal mine if the average time of one winding were added to it; and whether the time for lowering and raising the men has been increased since 1930?

Captain CROOKSHANK

The average time spent in the mine by coal miners in Great Britain, including one winding time, is eight hours. The average length of the winding time—approximately 30 minutes—was ascertained after careful inquiry in 1930 and I am not aware of any circumstances that can have caused any appreciable change since that time.
