HC Deb 09 July 1935 vol 304 c149
25. Sir ALFRED BEIT

asked the hon. and gallant Member for Rye, as representing the Forestry Commissioners, whether he will be prepared to plant trees in a prominent place in the form of a royal monogram in honour of Their Majesties' Jubilee, as was done in the case of Queen Victoria's Jubilee on the Sussex downs near Steyning?

Colonel Sir GEORGE COURTHOPE (Forestry Commissioner)

The answer is in the negative, but the hon. Member may be interested to know that with the permission of His Majesty the King an area of 6,000 acres recently acquired by the Forestry Commissioners is now called "The King's Forest" in commemoration of the Jubilee and in it will be planted a beech avenue four miles long to be called "Queen Mary's Avenue."

Mr. HENDERSON STEWART

Can the hon. and gallant Member say where it is?

Sir G. COURTHOPE

In Suffolk.
