HC Deb 09 July 1935 vol 304 c136
6. Mr. GRANVILLE GIBSON

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has considered the representations made to him by chambers of commerce respecting the adverse effects upon home and foreign trade of subsidised German exports; and what steps he proposes to take in the matter?

Lieut.-Colonel J. COLVILLE (Secretary, Overseas Trade Department)

Yes, Sir. My right hon. Friend has given consideration to the communications addressed to him on this subject. As regards the second part of the question, I would refer to the reply given to my hon. Friend on the 19th June.

Mr. GIBSON

May I ask whether some scheme cannot be conceived to circumvent the effect of the subsidy upon our exporters, because it is in fact obliterating the effect of the tariff imposed for the benefit of our exporters?

Lieut.-Colonel COLVILLE

If the hon. Member will look at the answer to which I referred, he will see that I dealt with the question of the home market and also the exports to neutral markets. If he has any sugestions to make to me, I shall be glad to receive them.
