HC Deb 09 July 1935 vol 304 c135
30. Mr. McKIE

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that the ferry at Kylesku, in the county of Sutherland, is unsatisfactory and provides an irregular service; and whether he will take steps to get it improved?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of TRANSPORT (Captain Austin Hudson)

The Kylesku ferry is operated by the Scottish Automobile Association. I am informed that there is a, continuous service during daylight from about the middle of May to the middle of October, but that delay may be experienced at certain low tides. I will, however, send my hon. Friend's question and this reply to the association, together with any suggestion for improvement which he may wish to make.

Mr. GUY

Will the hon. and gallant Gentleman consider a scheme for replacing this ferry by a bridge?

Captain HUDSON

We will consider that suggestion.

Mr. McKIE

Will the hon. and gallant Gentleman convey the same suggestion to the Minister in view of the fact that the county council of Ross-shire will be assisted by the Government to the extent of a 75 per cent. grant?
