HC Deb 27 February 1935 vol 298 cc1124-5
57. Mr. MANDER

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether the Dominions have been consulted with regard to the situation in the Far East with a view to ascertaining what action can usefully be taken there to maintain peace and secure international rights under the Nine Power land other existing treaties, especially in view of the fact that the open-door policy in Manchukuo is now being violated in the spirit if not in the letter?

The SECRETARY of STATE for DOMINION AFFAIRS (Mr. J. H. Thomas)

I can assure the hon. Member that His Majesty's Governments in the Dominions are kept as fully informed as possible of important developments in the international situation in the Far East, as in other parts of the world. I must not, of course, be understood as accepting the suggestion in the latter part of the question.

Mr. MANDER

In view of the great importance which some of the Dominions attach to this matter, will advantage be taken of the presence of their Ministers here this summer, for the Jubilee, to discuss the question with them.

Mr. THOMAS

I can assure my hon. Friend that the Dominions who take a great interest in this question will not need to be reminded of their opportunity of discussing it.
