asked the Minister of Labour the year and approximate date, during the past 15 years, when the number of employed workers was at its highest?

Mr. STANLEY

In the period from November, 1920, the date on which the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1920, came into operation, the number of insured persons, aged 16 to 64, estimated to be in employment in Great Britain, was highest at 23rd September, 1929, when it was 10,316,000.

asked the Minister of Labour the total number of insured workers employed in industry to-day, and the figure at this time last year and in 1931?

Mr. STANLEY

The estimated numbers of insured persons, aged 16 to 64, in employment in Great Britain were 10,053,000 at 28th January, 1935, 9,878,000 at 22nd January, 1934, and 9,227,000 at 26th January, 1931.
