HC Deb 21 February 1935 vol 298 c501
1. Sir FRANK SANDERSON

asked the Minister of Labour the number of juveniles who have left school since December last who to-day rank as insured workers?

The MINISTER of LABOUR (Mr. Oliver Stanley)

The total number of juveniles under 16 years of age, who entered insurance during January, 1935, was 68,431, but I cannot say how many of these left school in the previous December.

Sir F. SANDERSON

Will my right hon. Friend consider whether the school-leaving age might be increased as a temporary measure, say, during the next three or four years, which would assist materially to relieve unemployment?

Mr. STANLEY

The hon. Member had better put that question on the Order Paper.
