HC Deb 18 December 1935 vol 307 c1751
71. Mr. GLEDHILL

asked the Minister of Transport whether, in view of the prevailing uncertainty, he will issue clearer instructions with regard to pedestrian crossings, so that the general public may realise the difference between the ordinary crossing and one controlled by a light signal or police constable?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

I am sorry to hear that there is prevailing uncertainty in some parts of the country, particularly as every householder in the United Kingdom has been sent a copy of the Highway Code in which the regulations appear. I can only hope that the police in particular localities where crossings have not been long established will do all they can to make them effective.
