HC Deb 10 December 1935 vol 307 cc738-9
58. Mr. MAXTON

asked the Secretary for Mines whether the large increase in the retail price of coal which has taken place in certain districts in recent months is general throughout the whole country; and whether any increase in cost of pro- duction or distribution has necessitated these increases?

Captain CROOKSHANK

The statistics collected by my Department do not permit of comparisons between the increases in coal prices in one district and another. I understand, however, that the majority of the recent increases to consumers correspond with increased pithead prices.
