HC Deb 10 December 1935 vol 307 c734
49. Mr. STOREY

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the quantity and value of the goods imported into registered shipyards in the United Kingdom and on the North-East Coast, respectively, free of duty, under the provisions of Section 11 of the Import Duties Act, 1932, to the nearest convenient date?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. W. S. Morrison)

The value of the goods liable to duty ad valorem and admitted duty-free, or on drawback of the duty, into registered shipbuilding yards in the United Kingdom from 1st March, 1932, to 30th September, 1935, was approximately £980,000. The values of goods liable to specific duties are not recorded. A great variety of goods is concerned and information as to the quantity of each description is not available. I am unable to supply my hon. Friend with particulars for shipyards on the North-East Coast, as these are not separately recorded.
