HC Deb 10 December 1935 vol 307 c715
20. Mr. EDE

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will note to include in the forthcoming Companies Act (1929) Amendment Bill regulations specifically designed to protect the public against exploitation by the abuse of the system of Stock Exchange introductions known as placings or offers to sell?

Dr. BURGIN

The matter has been noted for investigation when the amendment of the Companies Act is under consideration.

Mr. EDE

Can the hon. Gentleman inform me when legislation is likely to be introduced?

Dr. BURGIN

The practice with regard to a matter like the Companies Act is to take note of any suggestions for improvement, and, after a reasonable period of time to test the working of the 1929 Act, to embody the whole in amending legislation. I doubt whether that time has yet arrived.
