HC Deb 10 December 1935 vol 307 c716
22. Mr. MANDER

asked the President of the Board of Trade the amount of sterling provided up to date for payment to British suppliers, representing 70 per cent. of the payments effected to the Bank of England, against imports from Turkey under the Anglo-Turkish clearing arangement, the amount awaiting transfer at the latest date, and whether he is satisfied with the working of the agreement?

Captain WALLACE

The figure asked for in the first part of the question is £250,341 up to 30th November, and that asked for in the second part was about £340,000 on the same date. While the transfers made under the Agreement were inadequate at the outset, they have recently increased, and I hope that the position will improve still further as the result of administrative improvements, for the introduction of which the co-operation of the Turkish Government has been invited.
