HC Deb 09 December 1935 vol 307 cc556-7
59. Mr. RHYS DAVIES

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he is aware that there is no district central school in either the Aspull or Blackrod urban areas; and whether steps are being taken by the Lancashire education authority to put these two townships on the same footing educationally as the surrounding areas?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Oliver Stanley)

Plans for the provision of a senior school at Blackrod are under consideration by the Board. No definite proposals for senior school provision at Aspull are at present before the Board.

Mr. DAVIES

In view of the fact that the population of Aspull is 6,000, will the right hon. Gentleman speed up the decision to secure this new school accommodation for the children of Aspull?

Mr. STANLEY

The hon. Gentleman knows, of course, that decisions on these points in the first place are matters for the local authority. I will certainly inquire into the matter.

Mr. DAVIES

Is it not a fact that the Lancashire education authority complain that the fault lies with the financial restrictions of the Government?

Mr. STANLEY

The fact remains that the Lancashire County Council have made no proposals with regard to this accommodation.
