HC Deb 09 December 1935 vol 307 cc555-6
57. Mr. E. SMITH

asked the Minister of Health whether he will consider the effect of unemployment on the rates of industrial centres and take steps to deal with the hardships caused thereby?

Sir K. WOOD

Abnormal unemployment is a factor affecting the distribution of the General Exchequer Contribution under the Local Government Act, 1929. The distribution of this Exchequer Contribution which, as the hon. Member is no doubt aware, must shortly under the terms of the Local Government Act be reviewed, is now engaging the attention of the Government.
