HC Deb 16 April 1935 vol 300 cc1662-3
21. Mr. CHARLE EDWARDS (for Mr. GEORGE HALL)

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office what proportion of the £4,503,000 estimated expenditure in 1935 on warlike stores is being spent in orders on the Royal Ordnance Factories and what proportion on contracts with trade firms; and the corresponding figures each year for the past 10 Years.?

Mr. HACKING

As the answer contains a number of figures, I will, with the hon. Member's permission, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Following is the answer:

that they should purchase the same themselves?

Mr. HACKING

The only Silver Jubilee medal which may be worn with other medals by ex-service men will be the medal presented by His Majesty. This medal is not on sale.

32. Mr. HALL-CAINE

asked the Minister of Pensions what are the principal arrangements which have been made for the entertainment of disabled ex-service men during Jubilee week; and whether steps have been taken by his Department to encourage those who are able to assist in this direction to provide special facilities on this occasion?

The MINISTER of PENSIONS(Major Tryon)

I am glad to say that a variety of arrangements for the entertainment of disabled ex-service men in connection with the Jubilee have been made with the full co-operation of the Ministry. Some 300 men from Roehampton and Orpington Hospitals and other institutions in the neighbourhood of London will be taken to points on the route of the Royal Procession on the 6th May and another 200 will be entertained elsewhere. Similar arrangements for entertainment have also been made in connection with the Ministry's other hospitals.

Sir JOHN SANDEMAN ALLEN

(by Private Notice) asked the Financial Secretary of the War Office whether it is a fact that the pay and ration allowance to be drawn by Territorials taking part in the Jubilee celebrations on 6th May or alternative dates will be taken into account by the Unemployment Assistance Board in assessing for the week in question the unemployment allowance payable to such Territorials who are unemployed?

Mr. HACKING

I am glad to have this opportunity of contradicting any such unfortunate rumour. The War Office on 12th April notified all General Officers Commanding and Territorial Army Associations that any pay and allowances drawn by Territorials from Army funds in respect of attendance at a Jubilee parade will be ignored for the purpose of unemployment allowance, in the ease of personnel who are in receipt of allowances from the Unemployment Assistance Board. In the case of Territorials in receipt of unemployment benefit who are barred by statute from receiving such benefit for the day in which they take part in the celebrations and at the same time draw Army pay and ration allowance, Army funds will make up to them the full benefit which they would otherwise have drawn for the day.
