HC Deb 16 April 1935 vol 300 cc1655-6
2. Mr. LUNN

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether he is aware that the Government of Southern Rhodesia has fostered maize-growing by the native population and afterwards, in the middle of the season, has, by its, Maize Control Act, made it impossible for them to sell at ordinary market rates, so that they have been buying back their own grain at a higher price per bag than that at which they had sold it; and whether, in view of his powers under the Southern Rhodesia constitution, he will make representations on this subject to the Government of Southern Rhodesia?

Mr. M. MacDONALD

My right hon. Friend has no information to confirm the view that the effect of the Act has been as suggested by my hon. Friend, but he is arranging for inquiries to be made.

Mr. LUNN

Will the hon. Member supply me with the information?

Mr. MacDONALD

Yes.
