HC Deb 16 April 1935 vol 300 cc1668-9
35. Mr. LIDDALL

asked the Minister of Transport the date of the last application made by the Lincoln Corporation for authority to proceed with the abolition of the existing railway level crossings within the city; would he be prepared now to sympathetically consider such an application; and, if approved, would he -contribute the maximum sum which he has recently announced his willingness to do in similar cases?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of TRANSPORT (Captain Austin Hudson)

No definite proposal has been submitted to my hon. Friend, although at a conference held at the Ministry of Transport in 1931 it was agreed that the council and the railway companies should endeavour to agree upon a scheme for the elimination of these level crossings. Since that date the matter has been under discussion between the council and the companies. My hon. Friend will be prepared to consider sympathetically an application for the maximum grant applicable to an agreed scheme.
