HC Deb 16 April 1935 vol 300 c1669
18. Mr. CHORLTON (for Mr. GLEDHILL)

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will issue a list of the approved motor insurance companies in the same way as is done for workmen's compensation insurance; and if he will withdraw the power to issue certificates from those companies not coming up to the required standard?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I understand from my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Home Department that he does not issue any list in respect of workmen's compensation insurance such as is suggested by my hon. Friend. In any case an assurance company which has fulfilled the statutory conditions is entitled to undertake motor vehicle insurance business and there is no authority to withdraw from such companies the power to issue certificates of insurance.
