HC Deb 16 April 1935 vol 300 c1667
27. Mr. D. GRAHAM

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether it is his intention to appoint a chief settlement officer in connection with land settlement in Scotland; and whether the person so appointed will be required to have a practical and technical knowledge of the agricultural industry?

Sir G. COLLINS

In connection with a reorganisation of the administrative staff of the Department of Agriculture for Scotland a post of chief settlement officer has been created for the purpose of dealing with the executive work of land settlement at headquarters. This is an administrative post, and consequently it is not an essential qualification that the officer appointed should have practical and technical knowledge of the agricultural industry; the officer designated for the post has had 23 years' experience of land settlement work in the Department.
