HC Deb 16 April 1935 vol 300 cc1658-9
17. Mr. HALL-CAINE

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether any steps are being taken to endeavour to arrive at an agreement between Belgium and this country on the same lines as the undertaking given by Belgium to France with regard to the danger of increased Belgian exports resulting from the devaluation of the belga?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I am glad to state that the Belgian Government have informed His Majesty's Government that steps have been taken to ensure that the devaluation of the belga shall not lead to abnormal exports of Belgian goods to foreign markets and that for this purpose a system of export licences will take effect immediately for certain articles. I understand also that export prices quoted by Belgian manufacturers are being closely watched by the Belgian Government.

Sir JOHN WARDLAW-MILNE

Is it my right hon. Friend's intention to advise the House by means of an answer to a question, or in some other way, what these articles are?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

If a question is put down, I shall be only too glad to give the information.
