HC Deb 10 April 1935 vol 300 cc1152-3
71. Mr. G. MACDONALD

asked the Minister of Labour the number of persons in insured occupation in Lancashire in December, 1931, and at the latest date on which figures are available, respectively?

The MINISTER of LABOUR (Mr. Oliver Stanley)

As the reply includes a table of figures 1 will, if I may, circulate a statement in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Following is the statement:

The numbers of persons insured against unemployment are ascertained only once each year, at the annual exchange of unemployment books at the beginning of July. The estimated numbers of insured persons, aged 16–64, in Lancashire in July, 1931, and July, 1934, and the numbers of such persons recorded as unemployed at 21st December, 1931, and 25th February, 1935, were as shown below:

Estimated numbers insured:
July, 1931 1,867,730
July, 1934 1,807,960
Numbers recorded as unemployed:
21st December, 1931 470,535
25th February, 1935 383,308
