HC Deb 08 April 1935 vol 300 cc780-1
60. Mr. H. WILLIAMSM

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether his attention has been drawn to the low average value declared in respect of the imports recently of the covers and inner-tubes of both motor-car and motor-cycle tyres; and whether he will take steps to have the accuracy of the valuation specially checked?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Duff Cooper)

I am not aware that Customs Duty on imported motor tyres and tubes is being charged on less than the statutory value, but if my hon. Friend will send me particulars of any case he has in mind I will have inquiries made.

Mr. WILLIAMS

Is it the case that the statutory value is normally the value as declared, and that this declared value may be low as the result of importation at dumped prices; and, if that be so, will that matter be taken into consideration with a view to action next Monday?
