HC Deb 29 November 1934 vol 295 cc1007-8
39. Mr. JOHN WALLACE (for Mr. HENDERSON STEWART)

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has considered the recent petition of the Fife Small Burghs Association for a more equitable division of membership on the Fife County Council; and whether he will consider holding an inquiry into the subject so as to relieve the discontent and discouragement at present felt by the small burghs?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Mr. Skelton)

The petition referred to is receiving careful consideration. It raises a number of questions which will require investigation before a decision can be reached, but my right hon. Friend does not anticipate

hon. and gallant Friend's permission, to circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Following is the answer:

I assume that the ranks which my hon. and gallant Friend wishes to exclude are Admirals of the Fleet, Field Marshals, and Marshals of the Royal Air Force. On this assumption the figures are as follow:

that the holding of a local inquiry will be necessary.
