HC Deb 29 November 1934 vol 295 c1000
34. Mr. STOREY

asked the President of the Board of Trade what proportion of the increased imports of scrap iron and steel is carried in British vessels; and whether, in order to render more work available for British labour, steps will be taken to encourage the breaking up of redundant tonnage in this country instead of abroad?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I regret that the information asked for in the first part of the question is not available. As regards the second part, I would ask my hon. Friend to await the Government's proposals in regard to shipping.
