HC Deb 29 November 1934 vol 295 c990
14. Major PROCTER

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that large sums of money have been collected from poor persons in north-west Lancashire and elsewhere on the representation that they were the rightful heirs to an undistributed estate amounting to many millions of pounds and which formerly belonged to William Nicholas Fazackerley, of Preston, who died in the 16th century; and whether he will call for a report from the chief constable as to what steps he has taken or proposes to take to prevent the exploitation of poor persons by the promoters of the so-called Fazackerley estate?

Captain CROOKSHANK

My right hon. Friend is having inquiry made and will communicate with my hon. and gallant Friend.

Major PROCTER

Will the hon. Gentleman at the same time give the widest publicity to the fact that there is no undistributed estate?
