HC Deb 28 November 1934 vol 295 c824
3. Major BEAUMONT THOMAS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the importance of establishing the closest trade relationships with the State of Manchukuo, he will approach the League of Nations with the object of rescinding the resolution which debars this and other countries from giving official recognition to a State which, whatever may have been the conditions of its birth, is now an established fact?

Mr. EDEN

The attitude of His Majesty's Government toward the question of the recognition of the present regime in Manchuria continues to be governed by the principles embodied in the League of Nations resolution to which my hon. Friend refers, and His Majesty's Government are unable to contemplate the step which he suggests.

Major-General Sir ALFRED KNOX

Would it not be better to study the situation in the Far East direct, and Lot through the eyes of Geneva?

Mr. EDEN

That does not seem to arise on this question.
