HC Deb 28 November 1934 vol 295 c834
29. Major THOMAS

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is satisfied that the new regulations governing the carrying by cyclists of red reflectors and 12 square inches of white surface are being enforced, and that these reflectors are satisfactory in their operation; and whether, in the interests of cyclists, he will ask for powers which will enable him to enforce the carrying of a rear red light by all cyclists on the roads?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

The information before me indicates that the majority of cyclists have already complied with the law in this respect. Parliament, in the Road Traffic Act of this year, decided to allow the white surface and a satisfactory reflector as a substitute for the red rear light. An amendment, to require the red rear light in all cases, was withdrawn in Committee, and I do not propose, after so short a time, to re-open the question.
