HC Deb 31 May 1934 vol 290 c345
23. Lieut.-Colonel ACLAND-TROYTE

asked the Minister of Health whether he will bring in legislation or regulations to ensure that no article may be sold as ice cream which is not made from fresh cream?

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

My right hon. Friend has no power to make regulations to the effect suggested, and he could not undertake to introduce legislation to deal solely with this matter. The general question of legislation to enable definitions of articles of food to be prescribed is receiving consideration in connection with the recommendations of the Departmental Committee on the Composition and Description of Food which has recently reported.

Lieut. - Colonel ACLAND-TROYTE

Will this matter be considered with the others?

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

I think so.
