HC Deb 31 May 1934 vol 290 c354
39. Mr. T. SMITH (for Mr. THORNE)

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has received a report in connection with the riots that took place in Glasgow on the 26th of May; and if he can give any information as to the cause of the riots?

The SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Sir Godfrey Collins)

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. I understand that in the case of the first disturbance the police were attacked while endeavouring to arrest a man participating in a street fight involving the members of a local gang; and that the second disturbance also followed the apprehension of a man by the police.
