HC Deb 16 May 1934 vol 289 c1752
27. Sir M. SUETER

asked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been drawn to a recent case before the King's Bench Division, in which evidence was given that typhoid fever had been contracted as a result of eating oysters; and will he cause an inquiry to be made as to why the precautions taken under regulations of public authorities to prevent contamination in shell-fish were ineffective in the case referred to?

The MINISTER of HEALTH (Sir Hilton Young)

My attention has been drawn to the case referred to by my hon. and gallant Friend but, as he is no doubt aware, it was subsequently decided that the oysters as supplied by the Fishing Company were not shown to be contaminated. I am, however, communicating with the local authority concerned in the matter.
