HC Deb 16 May 1934 vol 289 cc1750-1
22. Captain CUNNINGHAM - REID

asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware of the experiments undertaken by the municipality of Singapore in the use of rubber surfaces for street paving; and, if not, whether he will inform himself of the results of these experiments and the degree of their applicability to British road conditions?

The MINISTER of TRANSPORT (Mr. Oliver Stanley)

I am aware of the experimental work on rubber paving carried out in Singapore and my technical officers keep in mind the possibility of its application to road conditions in this country.

Mr. PIKE

Is it not a fact that this process is also being tried in certain areas of Yorkshire; and has the Minister any report as to its utility and value as a road surface?

Mr. STANLEY

Perhaps the hon. Member would put that question down.
