HC Deb 16 May 1934 vol 289 c1908

Lords Amendment : In page 6, line 28, leave out "in respect of each offence."

Sir H. YOUNG

I beg to move, "That this House doth agree with the Lords in the said Amendment."

Mr. RHYS DAVIES

We discussed this point in the Standing Committee. Would the Minister now tell us whether the omission of these words means, that the person would be fined for committing one offence, and be sent to prison only for committing more than one offence?

Sir H. YOUNG

This is a purely drafting Amendment consequential upon an Amendment moved in Committee, which provided that a person should not be liable to imprisonment for the first offence. The imprisonment is possible only in the case of a second offence.

Remaining Lords Amendments agreed to.
