HC Deb 08 May 1934 vol 289 c909
47. Captain STRICKLAND

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware of the potential serious consequences to the silk and artificial silk industry of the long delay in recommitting the consideration of increased import duties to the Import Duties Advisory Committee; and whether he can now make a statement as to the position?

The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Chamberlain)

As my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade informed the House yesterday, I have asked the Import Duties Advisory Committee to resume its work on the revision of the silk and artificial silk duties with a view to the submission to the Government, at as early a date as may be possible, of such recommendations as the Committee may see fit to make.
