HC Deb 03 May 1934 vol 289 cc471-2
41. Lieut.-Colonel MOORE

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether his attention has been called to the purchase from Canada for Glasgow of 20 Percheron mares and geldings which has been negotiated between the authorities of the Glasgow and Canadian Department of Trade and Commerce; and whether he is satisfied that the existing grants given by his Department for the encouragement of breeding heavy horses in Great Britain are sufficient to enable adequate supplies of draught horses to be available within this country?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

My right hon. Friend has no information respecting the transaction referred to in the first part of the question; as regards the second part of the question he is satisfied that the provision for the encouragement of heavy horse breeding in England and Wales is sufficient.

Lieut.-Colonel MOORE

Will my right hon. Friend draw public attention to the fact that most admirable heavy draught horses are available in Scotland for Glasgow and any other large city, particularly in Ayrshire.
