HC Deb 02 May 1934 vol 289 cc310-1
45. Mr. MANDER

asked the Prime Minister whether he will consider the advisability of a general consultation with the Dominions to consider the issues raised by the inquiry of the New Zealand Government as to whether an agreement could be come to providing for a free market for British goods in New Zealand in return for a similar free market for New Zealand goods in this country?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Ramsay MacDonald)

His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom have received no indication from any of His Majesty's Governments in the Dominions that an arrangement of the kind referred to is desired or would be acceptable to them. In the circumstances, I see no reason to think that any general consultation such as is suggested by the hon. Member would be of advantage.

Mr. MANDER

In view of the grave danger to the Empire of the "Little Englander" attitude of the Government—

Mr. SPEAKER

Brigadier-General Spears.
