HC Deb 01 May 1934 vol 289 c137
37. Mrs. TATE

asked the President of the Board of Trade what quantities of wheat starch were imported into this country in the years 1931, 1932, and 1933, respectively?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I regret that the desired information is not available, as the imports of wheat starch are not separately recorded in the trade returns of the United Kingdom.

Mrs. TATE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that a firm in this country has offered to put up plant to supply the whole of the wheat starch used in this country, but is unable to do so because of the quantity which is being dumped on the market at the present time; and would be, therefore, consider having wheat starch imported into this country in a separate category?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

So far as the returns are concerned, we are always reluctant to add to their complications, but I will consider the suggestion made by my hon. Friend.
