HC Deb 01 May 1934 vol 289 cc144-5
58. Mr. MACQUISTEN

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office what would be the cost of restoring the cuts in the pay of the personnel of those units of the Territorial Forces whose fortnight's annual training is taken wholly or partly prior to the 1st of July; and will he restore the cuts of such personnel?

Mr. COOPER

The cost would be approximately £800. With regard to the last part of the question, as my hon. Friend is aware, the decision of the Government is that the restoration should date from 1st July.

Mr. MACQUISTEN

Can the hon. Gentleman not persuade the Chancellor of the Exchequer and the Government to expedite the payment of this miserable sum to men who are devoting a great deal of their own time to this work, with practically no reward beyond what barely covers their out-of-pocket expenses?
