§ 23. Mr. THORNEasked the Minister of Health whether any official return has yet been issued showing the losses incurred by local authorities under the Derating Act, 1919?
Sir H. YOUNGNo final return of losses on account of rates arising under the provisions of the Local Government Act, 1929, as calculated on the basis of the figures of the standard year has yet been issued. Provisional figures relating to the losses of rates and grants were published in the Annual Report of the Ministry of Health for the year 1932–33. The hon. Member will no doubt be aware that sums equivalent to the total amount of these losses are included in the General Exchequer Contribution which is distributed annually to local authorities under the Act.
