§ 18. Dr. HOWITTasked the Minister of Health whether any statistics obtained 1374 from the working of the national health insurance scheme in 1933 evidence an increase in employment among insured persons; and, if so, to what extent?
Sir H. YOUNGAn accurate measure of the volume of employment amongst insured persons during any period is afforded by the number of health and pensions insurance stamps sold. An upward movement began in March, 1933, and the figures for the last 10 months of the year show that the number of weeks of employment was about 13,000,000 in excess of the number for the corresponding period of 1932.
