HC Deb 22 March 1934 vol 287 cc1379-80
38. Dr. O'DONOVAN

asked the hon. and gallant Member for Ipswich (Sir J. Ganzoni), as Chairman of the Kitchen Committee, if he has any figures to show how the sale of beer and other intoxicating liquors in the refreshment department of the House of Commons during the six months following the reduction of the Beer Duty compared with a similar period in 1932?

Sir PARK GOFF

I have been asked to reply. In reply to the hon. Member, the only figures available are for the whole year. The sale of draught beer in 1933 shows an increase over 1932 of 244½ gallons; on the other hand, the consumption of bottled beer decreased by 486 9–12 dozen bottles, and wines, spirits, etc., by 128 8–12 dozen bottles, 14 10–12 dozen half-bottles, 25 5–12 dozen quarter-bottles and nips.

Mr. THORNE

Do not these figures show that hon. Members are learning common sense by drinking less beer?
