HC Deb 21 March 1934 vol 287 c1197
10. Mr. DAGGAR

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he can give the House any information regarding the regulations passed or proposed to be passed by the Government of Kenya colony to restrict the rights of British residents to leave Kenya colony unless they can show evidence of having served in a defence force camp during the preceding year?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

I have never heard of such a regulation being suggested; nor would there, I think, be any power under the Ordinance to make such a regulation.

11. Mr. DAGGAR

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the Kenya Government has announced, with his sanction, that severe action will be taken against those British male residents of military age who are classified as Class 1 men under the Kenya defence force ordinance if they fail to do prescribed duty in training camps this year; and whether he will take steps to provide full rights of exemption to conscientious objectors to military service?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

I am not aware of any recent announcement by the Governor. A notice was issued by the Governor two years ago the terms of which I stated in answer given on 14th April, 1932, of which I am sending the hon. Member a copy. The Ordinance already provides for the exemption of conscientious objectors.
