HC Deb 13 March 1934 vol 287 c196
55. Mr. HEPWORTH

asked the Minister of Health the total losses up to this year on account of rates of the county borough of Bradford arising from the derating provisions of the Local Government Act of 1929?

Sir H. YOUNG

The "loss on account of rates" of the county borough of Bradford arising from the derating provisions of the Local Government Act, 1929, as calculated on the basis of the figures of the standard year (1928–29), amounted to £310,922. No corresponding figure based on data relating to a later year is available. The general Exchequer grant payable to the county borough each year is about £434,000.

Lieut.-Colonel ACLAND-TROYTE

Do we understand they have made a profit on the transaction?

Sir H. YOUNG

No, Sir, that would not be a necessary deduction.
