HC Deb 21 June 1934 vol 291 c537
48. Captain PETER MACDONALD

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been called to the fact that the number of Swiss watches imported into this country during the first five months of this year was approximately twice the number in the first five months of 1932; and, seeing that this increase may be attributed to the reduction of duty upon imported watches resulting from the Anglo-German trade agreement, whether any steps are to be taken to secure from Switzerland any corresponding advantage to British trade?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the second part, watches were not covered by the Anglo-German agreement of the 13th April, 1933, and there has been no reduction in the duty on these goods.
