HC Deb 21 June 1934 vol 291 cc544-5
47. Mr. NEIL MACLEAN

asked the Prime Minister whether he is now prepared to appoint a Royal Commission to consider the question of self-government for Scotland; and, if not, whether he can state the reason, in view of his pledge to Scottish Members in 1929?

The PRIME MINISTER

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave in answer to a question by the hon. Member for Hamliton (Mr. D. Graham) on the 14th February, 1933.

Mr. MACLEAN

Does not the right hon. Gentleman recollect that that reply said he could no nothing just now? I am asking him now if he has changed his opinion and whether he is prepared to redeem the pledge he gave in 1929?

The PRIME MINISTER

The hon. Member knows very well that nothing has changed since 1933 in this matter.

Mr. MACLEAN

So that we may take is that nothing has been done by the National Government?

The PRIME MINISTER

I say nothing has been changed either in opinion or action.
