HC Deb 21 June 1934 vol 291 cc552-3
68. Captain CUNNINGHAM-REID

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether he can give an explanation of the considerable percentage difference between the number of majors in the Royal Artillery not accepted for promotion to lieutenant-colonel during the past two years whose last command was a mechanised battery and those whose last command was a horse-drawn battery?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the WAR OFFICE (Mr. Duff Cooper)

No Sir. All majors of the Royal Artillery are considered in one pool for promotion, irrespective of the arm of the regiment in which they are serving.

Captain CUNNINGHAM-REID

Would it not appear that service with a mechanised unit proves a bar to promotion in the Artillery?
