HC Deb 21 June 1934 vol 291 cc532-3
23. Mr. POTTER

asked the Minister of Health whether at any of the centres established under his regulations contraceptive appliances are supplied at reduced prices or at the public expense to poor patients?

Sir H. YOUNG

I have not made any regulations on this subject but have indicated to local authorities the extent to which, as I am advised, they are empowered under the statute law to make arrangements for the giving of contraceptive advice at institutions provided by them. The question of making a charge for any appliances supplied by the local authorities is a matter within their discretion, and I have no complete information on this subject.

Mr. MOLSON

Would it be impossible for the Minister without legislation to relax the conditions which at present apply?

Sir H. YOUNG

That would depend upon the proposed relaxations. If the hon. Member has any in mind, perhaps he will give me an opportunity of learning his views on the subject.
