§ 17. Mr. T. WILLIAMSasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education if he is aware that more than 1,000 technical students are attending the Mexborough secondary and elementary schools; and if he will expedite the meeting with His Majesty's inspectors and the local education authority so that the erection of a technical college in Mexborough may be sanctioned?
§ The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Ramsbotham)On the assumption that the first part of the question refers to the number of students attending the evening classes held in the premises of the 1878 Mexborough Secondary School and the adjacent elementary school, the answer is in the affirmative. As regards the second part of the question, endeavours are being made to arrange for the proposed meeting between His Majesty's Inspectors and representatives of the local education authority to take place this month.
§ Mr. WILLIAMSIs the hon. Gentleman aware that the West Hiding Education Committee are thoroughly disappointed with the attitude of the board; and, in view of the fact that they have between 1,000 and 2,000 students, will he try to expedite the building of this very necessary college?
§ Mr. RAMSBOTHAMIn view of the fact that the meeting is to take place this month, probably it need not be long before the matter can be decided.
