HC Deb 14 June 1934 vol 290 cc1894-5
74. Miss HORSBRUGH

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can give the House any information as to the results of the visit which the deputy Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia has recently paid to certain countries in the Far East?

The SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Sir John Simon)

Yes, Sir. Mr. Latham reached Brisbane on the 12th June, having visited the Netherlands East Indies, Singapore, Hong Kong, China and Japan. I understand that he will in due course present a report to His Majesty's Government in the Commonwealth of Australia on the results of his tour. In the meantime His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom have been kept fully informed of the progress of his mission. The House will, I feel sure, join with me in congratulating Mr. Latham on the success of his journey, which has been of the greatest value, both to Australia and to the British Commonwealth of Nations, in promoting good relations with the countries of the Far East.
